First Aid for Accidents and Injuries In Houston

Falling can happen anytime and anywhere. Trampolines, athletic practices or everyday events. Many times, nothing happens except embarrassment but when an injury happens, there are some common treatments to be aware of.

Part 2- What You Should do if Someone Falls

  • Sprains– Remember R.I.C.E

    • Rest the injured limb.
    • Ice the area.
    • Compress the area with an elastic wrap or bandage.
    • Elevate the injured limb above your heart whenever possible.
  • Brakes

    • Stop any bleeding:
      • If they’re bleeding, elevate and apply pressure to the wound.
    • Immobilize the injured area:
      • help them stay as still as possible. If on one of their limbs, immobilize the area using a splint or sling.
    • Apply cold to the area
    • Treat them for shock
      • Cover them with a blanket or clothing to keep them warm.
    • Call 911 for help or get them to the emergency department for professional care.

These tips are not permanent fixes, just as with all first aid, it is important to make sure you can get the injured individual to a doctor as soon as possible. Our team here at Angels Medical are always ready to help with sprains and breaks, no appointment necessary!
